Well, Autism Awareness Month is at a close. I don't know if I informed anyone of anything and I'm not even sure that advocacy is my purpose in all of this. I know that finally telling Myriam's story, from my perspective, was very cathartic for me. Maybe it brought me one step closer to acceptance....
I know that I really only presented one side of my daughter, and perhaps that is really a disservice to her, because there is SO much more to Myriam than autism. She's beautiful and funny, she's sweet and brilliant. She loves Pop Beads
and sewing cards
and she could spend days coloring beautiful, vibrant pictures of the world as she sees it. And then, Myriam is also bossy and particular--she knows what she wants and how you should give it to her. She is a typical big sister when she's telling her little brothers what to do. So in the interest of fairness....My daughter Myriam loves cucumbers and raw green peppers--she eats them both like most people eat apples.
My daughter Myriam loves suckers but will pass up cookies, cakes and most other candies.
My daughter Myriam loves the color pink--the more the better.
My daughter Myriam loves babies, to the point of distraction.
My daughter Myriam loves dollies, but never names any of them.
My daughter Myriam loves parrots, most birds in fact, but only from a distance.
My daughter Myriam loves her colored hair extentions--she has blue and pink.
My daughter Myriam loves sparkly shoes
.My daughter Myriam loves pajamas but usually runs around the house in her underwear. (but so do the boys and their father too...hmm....)
My daughter Myriam loves school.
My daughter Myriam loves making brownies with Mommy or Nana.
My daughter Myriam loves playing outside and riding her tricycle
.My daughter Myriam loves her family.
And I love my daughter Myriam!
